Vomit Emoji – what it means and how to use it.

Not all emoji from the standard Unicode set convey pleasant and positive emotions. After all, unfortunately, our everyday life is filled with quite different events, and emoji should help us to replace feelings not with words, but with pictures. Today we want to talk about two emoji with not the most pleasant meanings, namely Vomit Emoji. There are two emoticons that convey this uneasy feeling, and they differ only in the degree of “nausea”. Let’s take a closer look at them.

🤮 The “Vomit” emoticon was assigned the code U+1F92E, with which it was added to the Faces and Emotions section of the Unicode 10.0 standard in 2017.

🤢 The “Nauseous” emoticon was assigned the code U+1F922, with which it was added to the Faces and Emotions section of Unicode 9.0 in 2016.

Meaning of the Vomit Emoji

So, speaking of using this emoji to describe your physical state, everything is clear. You can send one of these emoticons when the bass is literally nauseous, you ate something wrong, or you poisoned yourself. However, these emoji also have a more metaphorical meaning.

Literally, this emotion can be conveyed as follows: “I feel sick”, “disgusted”, “disgusting”, “nauseating”, “vomiting from it”, “so disgusting that it makes me sick”,  “horrible” and so on.

With the help of these emoji you can express your very strong disgust for something. The information or content is not just unpleasant, but disgusting.

These emoji denote vomiting, disgust for something or someone. You can send them if you have started a conversation about something else.

In response to unpleasant information, you can send one of these emoji to express your extremely negative attitude. You could say disgusting, very unpleasant, nasty. If you use an emoji to express your attitude specifically to a person, it will turn out to be quite offensive.

The Use of the Vomit Emoji

The Vomit Emoji is colored in a green shade, and the green color of emoticons symbolizes sickness, nausea. The emoticon is obviously sick, he is nauseous, he even sticks out his tongue. The emotion can be conveyed as follows: “I feel sick from what I saw”, “nauseous”, “bad”, “horrible”, “nauseating”, “I’m going to throw up”, “very unpleasant”, “disgusting”, “it’s disgusting to look at”, “it’s impossible to look at this”.

With the help of such an emoticon, you can express your disgust at what you see or hear. Information or someone’s words are so unpleasant and shocking that they make you sick. You can convey your very negative attitude from what you have heard, from the news. Something nasty, extremely repulsive. Or you can use this emoji to talk about how you are feeling, which is not the best.

Such an emoticon should be used carefully, so as not to inadvertently offend the interlocutor or accidentally do not go into an awkward situation. And for this you need to correctly interpret its meaning.

Vomit Emoji

Green emoticon means disgust or squeamishness towards someone or something. You can use it to express your antipathy to something or to characterize the state of your health.

This emoji can be inserted into a conversation if you are disgusted by the topic of conversation, or if you dislike something to the point of nausea. It is appropriate to use the image if something makes you sick to your stomach, and you can use it to characterize your nauseous mood. If you feel sick or nauseous, then such a mini-picture will also be suitable in meaning.

But it is better not to express your attitude to the interlocutor with this emoticon, so as not to offend him.


So, today we took a closer look at two not the most pleasant and aesthetically pleasing emoji, namely the Vomit Emoji. As you can see, we couldn’t find any positive meanings for these emoticons, even though we tried hard. Despite the fact that the literal and metaphorical meanings of these emoji are very similar, it is still worth paying your attention to the fact that most often in social networks and online correspondence they are still used to display not physical, but emotional state.
