Devil Emojis

Emoji have the same function in text that facial expressions or gestures have during verbal communication. And the most commonly used emoticons are faces with different expressions. However, in addition to yellow emoticons and cute kitties, there is a separate subcategory: devils.

There are only two of them, 👿 the angry and 😈 the smiling devil, and that’s more than enough to convey the playful tone of your message.

The Smiling Devil was assigned the code U+1F608, with which it was added to the Faces and Emotions section of the Unicode 6.0 standard in 2010. The Evil Devil emoticon was assigned the code U+1F47F, with which it was added to the Faces and Emotions section of the Unicode 6.0 standard in 2010.

Meaning of the Devil Emoji

The smiley devil face carries a somewhat negative connotation, even though it is smiling. He is smiling, or rather, smirking. He is not quite evil, as a similar emoticon with an angry expression, but at the same time sincerity and kindness from him should not be expected. He is cunning and and is probably scheming something not quite pleasant.

It can be used in a joking tone, “threatening” that the interlocutor is waiting for a joke or “payback” for his words and actions. Smiley can convey and some coquetry, flirting, intrigue. But it can also carry a negative meaning, some threat or hint at something that will be unpleasant to the interlocutor. And also literal gloating after someone has failed.

As for the Angry Devil 👿, it has a much less colorful meaning and can be interpreted solely as anger and resentment.
